Defective Drug Lawyers of McSweeney / Langevin Assisting Individuals who Suffered Peripherial Neuropothy (PN) Following use of Popular Antibiotic Drugs

The defective drug lawyers of McSweeney / Langevin are retaining people who used name brand antibiotics and suffered Peripherial Neuropothy. Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves that send information to and from the brain and spinal cord. Damage to these nerves interrupts this connection. Symptoms are usually numbness, tingling, burning, or shooting pain in the arms and leg

McSweeney / Langevin, a national law firm is actively assisting people who have been prescribed a class of drugs known as Floroquiniloines and developed Peripheral Neuropathy, a form of serious and potentially permanent nerve damage.

“Everyday, more and more people are developing Periphereal Neuropathy as a result of their use of antibiotic drugs.” said Rhett A. McSweeney, founding partner of McSweney/Langevin.

TheFDA identifies Fluoroquinolones as numerous brand-name and well-known antibiotic drugs.

In September, 2013, the FDA strengthened its warning to indicate the brand-name and well-known antibiotics may cause sudden, serious, and potentially permanent nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy.

TheNational Institute of Neurological and Stroke’s web site describes Peripheral neuropathy as, “damage to the peripheral nervous system, the vast communications network that transmits information from the brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system) to every other part of the body”.

TheFDA issued a Drug Safety Communication indicating patients receiving fluoroquinolone developed peripheral neuropathy. The warning specifically states the brand-name and well-known antibiotic treatments should be discontinued if symptoms of nerve damage appear.

Specifically; the FDA warning states: “Symptoms include pain, burning, tingling, numbness, weakness, or a change in sensation to light touch, pain or temperature, or the sense of body position. It can occur at any time during treatment with fluoroquinolones and can last for months to years after the drug is stopped or be permanent. Patients using fluoroquinolones who develop any symptoms of peripheral neuropathy should tell their health care professionals right away.”

Law Firm McSweeney / Langevin Files Transvaginal Mesh (TVM) Lawsuit on Behalf of Woman Allegedly Harmed by Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon, Inc. TVM Device

The law firm McSweeney / Langevin is filing legal claims on behalf of a woman allegedly harmed by Johnson & Johnson Ethicon, Inc.’s Transvaginal Mesh System. The lawsuit seeks monetary damages for pain and suffering, lost wages, and medical expenses following the Food and Drug Administration’s investigation into whether the transvaginal placement of surgical mesh to treat Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) and Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) can have serious health consequences.

The law firm McSweeney / Langevin has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a woman allegedly injured by a transvaginal mesh system. (S. Dist. W.Va. 2:14-cv-24815).

TheFDA has issued a Public Health Notification on October 20, 2008 regarding problems associated with transvaginal mesh.

According to the FDA, surgical mesh is a medical device that is generally used to repair weakened or damaged tissue. It is made from a synthetic material. In urogynecologic procedures, surgical mesh is permanently implanted to reinforce the weakened vaginal wall to repair pelvic organ prolapse or to support the urethra to treat urinary incontinence.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) occurs when the tissues that hold the pelvic organs in place become weak or stretched. Thirty to fifty percent of women may experience POP in their lifetime with 2 percent developing symptoms. When POP happens, the organs bulge (prolapse) into the vagina and sometimes prolapse past the vaginal opening. More than one pelvic organ can prolapse at the same time. Organs that can be involved in POP include the bladder, the uterus, the rectum, the top of the vagina (vaginal apex) after a hysterectomy, and the bowel.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a leakage of urine during moments of physical activity, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise.

The TVM lawyers of McSweeney / Langevin encourage woman who believe they have suffered from alleged side effects of a transvaginal mesh system to contact one of our experienced attorneys to discuss the possible claim, lawsuit and settlement. According to attorney Rhett McSweeney, women need to contact McSweeney / Langevin immediately, statute of limitations issues may be a concern.

Law Firm McSweeney / Langevin Recently Filed Lawsuits on Behalf of Individuals Allegedly Harmed by Fresenius Medical’s Dialysis Solutions Granuflo and NaturaLyte

The law firm McSweeney / Langevin is filing legal claims on behalf of individuals and families allegedly harmed by Fresenius Medical’s Granuflo or NaturaLyte. McSweeney / Langevin’s lawsuits follow the Food and Drug Administration’s investigation into whether the nation’s largest operator of dialysis centers violated federal regulations by failing to inform the public of a potentially lethal risk connected to dialysis solutions Granuflo and NaturaLyte.

Dialysis injury lawsuits involving Granuflo and NaturaLyte are currently being filed on behalf of injured individuals, and families of lost loved ones, by the law firm McSweeney / Langevin. (See In Re: Consolidated Fresenius Cases: MICV2014-03015-O and MICV2014-03014-O).

According to Fresenius Medical Care, GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are chemicals used in dialysis machines to help clean blood. Granuflo and NaturaLyte contain a substance called bicarbonate. Bicarbonate is used to prevent a buildup of acid in the blood.

Fresenius, the German based manufacturer of Granuflo and NaturaLyte, conducted an internal study of the safety of Granuflo and NaturaLyte. The internal study revealed an up to eight-fold increase in the risk of cardiopulmonary arrest and sudden cardiac death. This information was detailed in a November 4, 2011 Fresenius Internal Memo sent only to to medical directors and physicians. This internal memo was later published by The New York Times on June 15, 2012. The internal memo warned a small number of doctors of the sharp increase of patients dying suddenly from cardiac arrest. The internal memo states “[t]his issue needs to be addressed urgently.”

In attorney David Langevin’s opinion, Fresenius did not address the issue “urgently.” In fact, Fresenius failed to inform the Food and Drug Administration of dangers associated with Granuflo and NaturaLyte. According to the New York Times June 14, 2012 article “Dialysis Company’s Failure to Warn of Product Risk Draws Inquiry,” Fresenius only warned the public of the safety risks and dangers of Granuflo and NaturaLyte after an individual sent an anonymous copy of the internal memo to the FDA.

On March 29, 2012, The FDA Issued a Class I recall of Granufo and NaturaLyte shortly after the anonymous tip. A Class I recall is the most serious recall due to the risk of serious injury and death.

According to the FDA’s Class I Recall, side effects of Granuflo and NaturaLyte include cardiopulmonary arrest, heart problems, metabolic alkalosis, low blood pressure, sudden MI or heart attack, stroke and even death. These side effects are usually seen during, or shortly after, the dialysis treatment.
