Roblox Sued Over Child Exploitation and Predator Access

The state of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, one of the most popular online gaming platforms for children, accusing the company of facilitating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and failing to protect minors from predators.

The lawsuit alleges Roblox knowingly created and maintained an unsafe environment where predators can easily interact with children. According to the complaint, Roblox’s lack of meaningful age verification, inadequate parental controls, and misleading assurances of safety have left kids dangerously exposed.

“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana. Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,” Murrill said in a statement.

A Platform Overrun With Exploitation

Roblox markets itself as the “#1 gaming site for kids and teens” and even promotes itself as an educational tool. But the lawsuit describes a very different reality – one where predators thrive.

The complaint cites a July 15 arrest, where law enforcement found a suspect in possession of child sexual abuse images while actively using Roblox. Investigators allege he used voice-altering technology to mimic a young girl to lure minors on the platform.

The lawsuit further highlights Roblox “experiences” mislabeled as all-ages despite containing graphic, sexually explicit, or predatory content. Titles like Escape to Epstein Island, Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe, and others were cited as examples of how dangerous material is just a click away for young users.

A Pattern Across the Industry

This lawsuit follows other legal actions against video game companies with primarily child user bases. Earlier this year, a class action in California targeted the makers of Minecraft and Fortnite, accusing them of exploiting minors through addictive design, unchecked in-game purchases, and a lack of safeguards.

Louisiana’s action goes further – accusing Roblox of not only failing to protect children but also of directly facilitating the distribution of child sexual abuse material.

What’s at Stake

The lawsuit seeks restitution, damages, attorneys’ fees, and stronger protections for children online. Roblox has responded by claiming it spends “substantial resources, including advanced technology and 24/7 human moderation” to filter harmful content – but the state argues these measures are grossly insufficient.
