FDA Recalls Medtronic MiniMed 600 Series

Medtronic MiniMed models 630G and 670G are both recalled due to a missing or broken retainer ring. The ring helps lock the insulin cartridge into the pump’s reservoir compartment. If the cartridge is not locked firmly in place, under, or over, delivery of insulin may occur, potentially resulting in hypoglycemia (low glucose, or blood sugar) or hyperglycemia (high glucose, or blood sugar). The FDA has received almost 30,000 complaints regarding defective MiniMed 600 series as well as over 2,000 injuries and at least one death.
